Laura Sirot has loved watching animal behavior since she was a kid. Growing up, she spent most of her time outdoors watching wildlife or training one of her family’s dogs. In her teens, she started working at local nature centers and as an intern at the Bronx Zoo. Her very first semester of college, she took a primate behavior course and was completely hooked! During college, she then had the amazing opportunities to study primate behavior in Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. For the first study, her job was to follow around sexually receptive female rhesus monkeys all day and write down everything they did. It was Laura’s first introduction to the science of sex and reproduction and she has focused her research in this area ever since. She is now a professor of Biology at The College of Wooster where she teaches Animal Behavior, Evolution, and Invertebrate Biology. She also works in the community through organizing the Wooster Science Cafe, volunteering at Wayne County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center, and serving on the board of Wayne County Children’s Services.
